VOSH- Northwest
Offering vision for a better world
VOSH NEWS BULLETIN
June 1, 2005

Greetings folks - there really isn't a lot of new VOSH news, but I thought I'd better send out an announcement to let you know that VOSH  is still alive and kicking. Anyone who has something to pass on to the group, please let me know at faulstich.l@ghc.org and I'll put it in future bulletins. Have a great summer,

                                        Lis Faulstich

PERU TRIP COMPLETED

The group has just returned from Peru where a very successful clinic was held at the Kausay Wasi clinic in  Coya. This clinic is sponsored by Northwest Medical Teams, and thanks to its directors, Guido and Sandy del Prado, it was one of the most organized clinics ever seen by VOSH.   A total of 1232 patients were seen, most of whom would never have had the chance to see an eye doc if we had not shown up. A surgical team will be going to the site in the fall, so we were able to arrange for those folks with cataracts and pterigium to be put on a list for that team. We have been invited back, so if anyone is interested in leading a trip to Peru in the future, contact Brian Reeh, the mission leader, for more information.  Also, many thanks again to the Lions who provided us with some of the glasses that we distributed.

FUTURE MISSIONS

Rich Ryan's trip is getting ready to leave for Guatemala later this month. Other than that, the only definite trip being planned is Cambodia for November. Again, if you're interested, contact Andy Mizuki at  his new e mail address of  andym@mckinstry.com

There are some rumblings about a trip to Malawi and El Salvador in 2006, and as more info becomes known, I'll let you all know.

SRI LANKA TRIP POSSIBLE

I got a phone call a while back from a very nice doc who has done medical volunteer work in Sri Lanka, and would love to have a VOSH team join him on a future mission. If anyone is interested in leading this, contact me and I'll put you in touch with him.

TABLES NEEDED

The VOSH work site needs some tables. If anyone has any old card or work tables that they're not using, let me know at my e mail above or just bring them down to the work site.

SODO WORK NIGHTS

Though the summer we will still be meeting the second and fourth Monday nights every month beginning about 6:00. If you haven't been there for a while, remember that we are now on the second floor.

NEW IMPROVED VOSH WEB SITE

Gene has been doing some more work on the web site, so if you haven't visited it in a while, go to www.voshnorthwest.homestead.com. There are photos from the Guatemala and Peru trips, plus links to other sites. If anyone has any suggestions for ways to make it better, let me know and I'll pass it on to Gene.
